  • do you take custom orders/commissions?
yes, on rare occasions. the turnaround time for a custom piece is ~6 months. (it's long, I know, but that's how long it takes me.) email to ask about custom orders.
  • is your pottery durable? Does it break easily?
it's fairly durable, but it's pottery -- it does occasionally break! if you drop it or hit it against a hard surface, or put it in the broiler (learned this the hard way) it might break.
  • is your pottery dishwasher/microwave/oven safe?
technically you can put my pottery in the dishwasher, microwave, or oven. HOWEVER: dishwasher instructions: I highly recommend hand washing all handmade pottery if you want it to last a long time. my family has been dishwashing my pottery regularly for years and it's still in good shape. but personally, I hand wash only. microwave instructions: all of my pottery is perfectly microwave safe. if I ever start putting luster on my pots (overglaze that contains actual metal) I will be sure to warn against ever microwaving those pieces. as of May 9, 2024, I do not use lusters, therefore my pottery can be safely microwaved. oven instructions: most pottery is oven-safe as long as you don't shock the piece by putting it in an already pre-heated oven. I don't know why you'd want to put any of my pieces in the oven, but if you do, please put it in the oven from room temperature while the oven preheats so that it can slowly increase temperature. putting pottery in, say, the broiler for instance, will cause the piece to eventually crack and break because the temperature change is too hard on the clay. (ahem... I learned this the hard way.) stovetop instructions: NEVER. no not place pottery over an open flame. don't do it. it will break. I warned you.
  • do you make all of this yourself?
yes I do. everything I make is produced, photographed, packed and shipped out of my home studio.
  • what temperature do you fire to?
all of my work gets fired to cone 6 oxidation in an electric kiln.
  • do you offer pottery classes for private parties/events?
yes, sun parlor studio is proud to offer pottery classes for private parties and events! this is the perfect activity for birthdays, bachelorette parties, or team building. we will guide you and your group through the process of creating your own unique pottery pieces, providing step-by-step instructions and personalized support. we can accommodate groups of up to 8 students and tailor the experience to suit your specific preferences and requirements. you can choose the project you'd like to work on or let your instructor come up with a project for you. we provide all the necessary materials and equipment, including clay, tools, aprons, and underglazes. your work will be fired, clear glazed, and fired a second time, ensuring it is food safe and functional for everyday use. get in touch with us to discuss and arrange a custom pottery class for your private party or event! email for more info.
  • can I pay for pottery classes in installments?
yes! to set up a payment plan, please email accepted payment methods for payment plans include venmo, cash app, zelle, check, or cash.
  • are your pottery classes beginner friendly?
yes! all of my pottery classes are designed with a range of experience levels in mind. beginners are welcome and encouraged to enroll!
  • is there an age requirement for pottery classes?
my recommendations are as such: handbuilding: 10+ wheel throwing: 12+ if a student is younger but has some experience with art-making and an interest in learning, I would not turn them away! email for additional info.
  • can I take a pottery class with a friend, partner, family member etc?
yes! with some caveats. if you're interested in taking a wheel throwing class... I only have one wheel in my studio, so you and your friend, partner, family member etc. would need to be okay with taking turns on the wheel. while you’re waiting, you can make a pinch pot (which can become a small cup or bowl or bell etc.) for two students, I recommend booking a Joint Workshop or Joint Intro class. email for more info. I now offer small group workshops as well. these are handbuilding classes only with a capacity of 8 students. these classes have predetermined dates/times and are listed on the classes page. to book a private party, email
  • can I try it before I commit to a multi-week pottery class?
yes! sign up for a one-time pottery workshop. it is designed for exactly this reason.
  • is your pottery studio accessible?
as of may 9, 2024: for private and semi-private lessons: not very, but accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis. the studio is located in the sunroom at the back of my house. it has its own separate entrance with a ramp going up to it, but there is a small step up at the top of the ramp. access to the bathroom requires you to take a step up, and the bathroom itself is pretty small and not accessible, unfortunately. in addition to these considerations, the process of making pottery can be pretty hard on the body, especially if you have any back mobility or fine motor skill limitations. this is where the most accommodations can be made. I am happy to talk to you more about this and your access needs during your time at my studio. in addition to these accommodations, during the warmer months, we can move private lessons into the garage studio, which is much more spacious and does not have a step up. for group classes: somewhat. the studio is located in the detached garage. the entrance is wide, but the work table is not wheelchair accessible. accommodations can be made, but to use the bathroom inside, there is not much I can do in the way of accommodations. if you have any concerns, please email for more info. for handbuilding lessons or private bookings, I may also be able to come to you.
  • do you offer group wheel throwing classes?
we offer private and semi-private wheel throwing classes, for one or two students at a time. for group classes of up to 8 students at a time, we offer handbuilding only.
  • where do you ship to?
as of march 9, 2024, I currently ship anywhere in the continental U.S. I plan to ship internationally in the future!
  • when will your next shop update be?
check my instagram or facebook page @sunparlorstudio and subscribe to my mailing list to be notified about shop updates. sometimes I make these decisions last minute, sometimes I plan well in advance and I'm on my best marketing game. but if you're on my mailing list, you'll know about it either way.

meet your teacher

megan young

I have been teaching pottery and visual arts to all ages since 2018 at studios across Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, including the Beck Center for the Arts, Orange Art Center, and Near West Intergenerational School. I believe in the importance of fostering a fun and welcoming studio environment for students of all levels and degrees of experience. We'll most likely listen to some music and chat about life while we work.
