handbuilding: 10+
wheel throwing: 12+

if a student is younger but has some experience with art-making and an interest in learning, I would not turn them away!

can I take a pottery class with a friend, partner, family member etc?

yes! with some caveats.

if you're interested in taking a wheel throwing class...
I only have one wheel in my studio, so you and your friend, partner, family member etc. would need to be okay with taking turns on the wheel. while you’re waiting, you can make a pinch pot (which can become a small cup or bowl or bell etc.)

is your pottery studio accessible?

as of may 9, 2024:
for private and semi-private lessons: not very, but accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis. the studio is located in the sunroom at the back of my house. it has its own separate entrance with a ramp going up to it, but there is a small step up at the top of the ramp. access to the bathroom requires you to take a step up, and the bathroom itself is pretty small and not accessible, unfortunately. in addition to these considerations, the process of making pottery can be pretty hard on the body, especially if you have any back mobility or fine motor skill limitations. this is where the most accommodations can be made. I am happy to talk to you more about this and your access needs during your time at my studio. in addition to these accommodations, during the warmer months, we can move private lessons into the garage studio, which is much more spacious and does not have a step up.

for group classes: somewhat. the studio is located in the detached garage. the entrance is wide, but the work table is not wheelchair accessible. accommodations can be made, but to use the bathroom inside, there is not much I can do in the way of accommodations. if you have any concerns, please email megan@sunparlorstudio.com (megan@sunparlorstudio.com)for more info.
