Founded in 2022, Sun Parlor Studio is a cottage ceramics studio and classroom located in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood. Designed for private and small group instruction, the studio offers handbuilding classes and pottery lessons in an intimate, playful setting.

Sun Parlor is owned and operated by Cleveland-based artist and educator Megan Young, a 2020 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art with a BFA in Sculpture + Expanded Media. While at CIA, Megan explored found object art using everyday materials like extension cords and sponges, while also diving into ceramics through elective classes and part-time work with local ceramicists. The shift from conceptual art to functional pottery sparked a lasting curiosity about the boundaries between art, craft, and design.

After graduation, Megan began making pottery out of her sunroom—hence the studio’s name. Today, Sun Parlor Studio produces slow-made, small-batch ceramics and one-of-a-kind pieces. The studio embraces whimsy, play, and exploration, celebrating ceramics as a way to connect with daily rituals, community, and joy.

The Studio

where it all began

All Sun Parlor ceramics are made with love in my humble home pottery studio in Cleveland, OH. My studio is in my sunroom/mud room. I renovated this room in 2021 and it feels entirely different from the rest of the house. It's bright and inspiring and I love spending time in it. It has its own separate entrance at the back of the house, great lighting, and white walls and ceilings. The sunroom is where the making process begins. It houses the wheel, clay, slab roller, wedging tables, and shelves. All private and semi-private pottery lessons take place in the sunroom. Once all the greenware is completed, it gets fired in the kiln in the basement, and then glazed in the spare room attached to the sunroom.

Sun Parlor Studio Handbuilding Group Classes

If you ever take a group workshop or book a private party, you'll be in the garage studio. This space was renovated over the course of a year (and is still a work in progress!) It features a large work table suitable for up to 10 people at a time, bright work lighting, white walls and ceilings, and of course art all over the walls. In 2024 we are continuing to improve the garage, adding shelving, additional work spaces, storage, and eventually more windows! Updates to the garage studio are posted on Instagram and (less frequently) in the email newsletter.

The garage studio is primarily a handbuilding studio. All wheel-throwing takes place in the sunroom, which houses the pottery wheel. In the future, additional wheels might be added to the garage studio. To be decided!

This studio (as implied by the fact that it's in a garage) is an indoor-outdoor space. When the weather is nice we leave the garage door open. It's a lovely place to make art!

scoop + robert

the studio pets

Scoop and Robert are our beloved furry friends. If you take a private or semi-private lesson, you just might be lucky enough to meet them. They are not allowed in the studio when students are present unless you ask!

Scoop is a 6-year-old Pomeranian Bichon and he is the happiest, friendliest little guy you'll ever meet. He is very small and doesn't shed. Scoop loves toys and laying in boxes and he hates the sound of crickets and cell phone ringtones.

Robert is a 3-year-old tuxedo cat. He is very affectionate but easily startled, and he loves looking out the window and napping all day.
